Guest Post: Dirty Girl Mud Run 2013

Hey Folks! Mrs. Best5Zach here!!!

Zach asked me to do a guest blog on our experience with the DIRTY GIRL MUD RUN at LAKE LANIER RESORT in Buford, GA. Myself and two of my friends, Emily and Jenny took on the challenge April 20, 2013 and had a blast!

First, HUGE shout out to my amazing hubby “Best5Zach” for agreeing to let me have a weekend away with the girls to do our first ever Mud Run. Staying home with 3 kids under 7 is no joke!

We decided, after researching our lodging options, to get a LakeHouse at the fantastic Lake Lanier Resort in Buford, GA. There were other hotels on the exit with the resort (where the race was held) but we decided it would be worth the extra money to be in walking distance and not have to ride in someone’s car covered in mud. That turned out to be a great decision. The resort also offers rooms in their main Lodge. After stumbling across a fantastic deal we settled on the Lake House for two nights. We had a lake view, hot tub, washer/dryer, gas grill, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It was perfect.

After a long drive in (traffic was a nightmare) we got groceries at the Publix on the exit....super convenient...and headed to check in. We were immediately intimidated at the size and grandeur of the resort. Once we got our keys and made it to the lake house we all ooo'd and aahh'd over how cute it was.

We had decided that we would head back out to a restaurant that night since no one likes to cook after being in the car for five hours. We found Coastal Breeze seafood on our exit and decided that was our place. We enjoyed all of our extra carbs (any excuse for pasta, right?) and headed back to the resort some hot tub time and a good nights rest before our 9 a.m race.

Race Day we woke up at 6:15 and drank our Spark at a banana and headed off to the race course. It ended up being about a mile from the cabin which was the perfect warm up walk. There were lots of festivities before our scheduled time so we checked our bags, got our swag bag, and strapped on the GoPro. There was a DJ at the starting line with music to get everyone pumped for the race. The run was mainly on trails and took you around the resort and wound all the way to the water, where you were literally running inches from Lake Lanier. It was very challenging and LOTS of fun. The video we got with the GoPro speaks for itself. The finish line was located on the beach area of Lanierworld and also had a DJ and food and drinks.

We enjoyed the walk back to the Lake House and then spent the afternoon in the hot tub, relaxing in the sun, and grilling up a fantastic dinner.

Make sure to check out the vid!
